Seminar | Peter Fibiger Bang (Kopenhagen) "Writing Comparative Histories of Rome"
Rome has traditionally been studied in the light of Europe. But Europe is normally understood as defined by the absence of a new all-encompassing, universal empire, Roman style. To overcome this paradox, we need to broaden our horizon and explore other comparative contexts for Rome. This seminar will seek to situate the experience of Roman state-formation among other vast, universal empires of Eurasia, from the Achaemenids, to the Ottomans, the Mughals and the Qing dynasty. Come join what could be an exiting journey.
